Illuminated kayak and canoe procession on the Liverpool waterfront, with onshore entertainment for spectators, to raise funds for Alder Hey Children's Charity.
Alder Hey Children's Charity is bringing the Santa Paddle back to the Royal Albert Dock on Saturday 28 November, their illuminated kayak and canoe procession that takes over a good stretch of the Liverpool waterfront. It runs from 11am to 9:30pm, with the procession on the water from 5pm to 7pm.
The route starts at the city's canoe entry point at Harbourside and heads to the Liverpool Watersports Centre, then through Queen's Dock and into the Royal Albert Dock before looping back again. It's a fair distance to cover, and the whole thing is lit up, so it's as much about the lights as it is about the paddling. The water leg is aimed at experienced and confident paddlers, who take responsibility for their own safety on the water, while onshore entertainment fills the banks for spectators before the convoy sets off.
If you're taking part, you bring your own kayak, canoe, pedalo or SUP along with a life vest. You're encouraged to decorate your vessel, so it's worth spending a bit of time on the lights before the day. Hired boats are available on a limited basis if you don't have your own, but they'll go quickly, so it's better to sort yours early. If you're not on the water, you can still head down to the dock and watch the procession pass by.
