Stand-up comedy show celebrating 40 years at the mic by Mark Thomas, a mix of political and personal mayhem.
Mark Thomas is at the Everyman Playhouse on Friday 20 November, with a brand-new show that marks 40 years at the mic. He's billed as one of the oldest surviving alternative comics, and the title, 40 in Stand-Up Years, does the math for you.
Across those four decades he's won eight awards for performing and four more for his human rights work. He did six series of The Mark Thomas Comedy Product and three Dispatches for Channel 4, five series of The Manifesto for Radio 4, and wrote six books and five play scripts. There's a Guinness World Record in there too, for staging 20 protests in 24 hours. He walked 724km along the length of the Israel Wall in the West Bank, opened a comedy club in Palestine with Dr Sam Beale, and campaigned for trade union recognition for cinema workers. Critics have called him a 'firebrand of a clown' and praised the ratio of hard-hitting matter to mirth.

He describes the show as a mix of political and personal mayhem, jokes, rants and a state-of-the-nation broadcast. It's a new set, so it's not a best-of from the last forty years, but a fresh hour of his usual blend of the political and the personal. Tickets are £22, and the Everyman is on Hope Street in the city centre.
