PurpleDoor's 1980s Liverpool Hamlet, with Nanci Bennett in the title role, staged alongside Twelfth Night for the company's 18th birthday.
PurpleDoor are bringing Hamlet to Make North Docks on Wednesday 9 December, as part of a double bill that pairs it with Twelfth Night. Nanci Bennett takes the title role, and the two plays run together in one evening.
It's a revival of the company's 2015 production of Hamlet, which relocates the play to 1980s Liverpool. That original run was a sell-out, and the Observer (Ireland) called it 'a rare and fantastic feat'. The whole evening runs for two and a half hours, so you're getting two Shakespeare plays in one sitting rather than just the one.
The double bill is part of PurpleDoor's 18th birthday celebrations, so it's a bit of a milestone for them. Bringing back a production from over a decade ago gives you a sense of where they've come from, and having Twelfth Night alongside it means you get two very different sides of Shakespeare in a single night.
