Hip hop pioneer Grand Master Flash brings his 'The 4 Elements Tour' to Invisible Wind Factory in Liverpool.
Grand Master Flash brings The 4 Elements Tour to Invisible Wind Factory on Saturday 24 October, with the show starting at 6:00 pm. It's a solo bill, so it's just him on the decks for the night.
If you've never heard the name, Flash is one of the original innovators of hip hop. Born and raised in the South Bronx, he's often described as the genre's first virtuoso. Back in the early 1970s, he was the first DJ to use the turntable as a musical instrument, putting his fingers on the vinyl to perfect beat looping. He's credited with the Quick Mix Theory and the wafer — the slipmat that's now standard gear for DJs everywhere — both of which changed the trajectory of hip hop music and culture.
He's still active, keeping that era's influence alive through his tours, weekly livestreams, lectures and other projects, and The 4 Elements Tour is the latest of them. The title points back to the four pillars of hip hop — DJing, MCing, breaking and graffiti — and the night is built around that foundation. It's a chance to see one of the pioneers who helped shape the whole scene still working the decks.
