Photographic exhibition by Jaskirt Dhaliwal-Boora and women from four UK refuges on how nature and creativity can help heal from trauma.
Fractured Landscapes and how we heal opens at Open Eye Gallery on 6 November and runs until 20 December, with a launch evening on 5 November from 6pm to 8pm. You'll find it upstairs in Gallery 3 at 19 Mann Island, L3 1BP.
The exhibition looks at the role nature and creativity can play in healing from trauma, specifically in the context of male violence and abuse against women and girls. New photographic work by artist, activist and socially engaged practitioner Jaskirt Dhaliwal-Boora runs alongside pieces created by women from four refuges across the country, each working with a lead artist. There's also a companion book available in the gallery's independent bookshop, which brings together the artists' reflective writing, participant statements and artwork, and is designed as a learning tool.
Dhaliwal-Boora won the Royal Photographic Society's Social Practice Award in 2025, founded Luna (formerly Women in Photo Birmingham) and is a Senior Lecturer at Birmingham City University. The project received an Arts Council England Project Grant, with support from The New Art Gallery Walsall, Open Eye Gallery, Photo Fringe and the Peter Marlow Foundation.
