Electric Six, the Detroit garage rock, funk and disco band, play the O2 Academy Liverpool with The Oozes as support.
Electric Six are playing O2 Academy Liverpool on Thursday 3 December, with The Oozes supporting. It's one of four UK dates they're doing this run, so it's not a one-off stop.
If you've never come across them, Electric Six are a six-piece from Detroit, Michigan, who blend garage rock, funk and disco with a comic touch. They started out in 1996 as The Wildbunch, but dropped that name to avoid clashing with a Bristol trip-hop act, and cut their teeth on the Detroit scene that produced The White Stripes. Frontman Dick Valentine, whose real name is Tyler Spencer, is the band's primary songwriter and the source of their sharp, tongue-in-cheek wit.
Their 2002 single 'Danger! High Voltage' reached number two in the UK, with Jack White of The White Stripes on backing vocals, and 'Gay Bar' also landed them a UK Top 5 hit. The 2005 album Señor Smoke drew some attention for its cover of Queen's 'Radio Ga Ga', with a video that showed Valentine as the ghost of Freddie Mercury backed by a band of poodles. That mix of dancefloor energy and a bit of a wink is pretty much the whole point of the band.
