Free, booking-required, multi-sensory tour of Becky Beasley's exhibition 'A Gentle Man, Part II (1975-2029)' led by Blue Room artists.
The Bluecoat is hosting Blonde Pink and Wellness Green: A Blue Room Sensory Tour on Saturday 14 November, from 1:00pm to 2:00pm. It's a guided tour of A Gentle Man, Part II (1975-2029), the exhibition by Becky Beasley, and the guides are the artists from Blue Room.
Blue Room is The Bluecoat's inclusive arts project, which supports learning disabled and neurodivergent artists. This tour was co-designed and co-delivered by learning disabled artists for a wide audience, so it's not just about looking at the work from a distance. Instead, it brings the sensory experience of the artworks to life through a multi-sensory journey of smell, sight, sound and touch, with every interaction optional — you can engage as much or as little as you like.
It's an hour-long session, and children over four are welcome as long as they're accompanied by an adult. The whole thing takes place in wheelchair-accessible spaces, so it's open to everyone regardless of how they get around. If you've been following Becky Beasley's work, this is a different way to experience it; if you haven't, it's a good place to start, especially since the artists leading the tour are the ones who've been working within the project.
