Sir David Jason, star of Only Fools and Horses, talks about his career with rare clips and outtakes in a conversational stage talk.
Sir David Jason is coming to the Liverpool Empire on Saturday 9 January 2027, for a conversational stage talk rather than a theatrical production. He'll be in conversation with BBC Breakfast presenter Mike Bushell, and the night is built around Jason talking through his career from the early amateur dramatics to decades on television.
Most of us know him as Del Boy in Only Fools and Horses, Inspector Frost in A Touch of Frost and Granville in Open All Hours, but there's a whole other side to his work that doesn't always get as much airtime. He's the voice behind Danger Mouse, The BFG, Count Duckula and Toad, and a good chunk of the evening is dedicated to how he approached the vocal demands of animation—sometimes with nothing more than a single image to go on. He also talks about how Del Boy grew beyond the original scripts, so you get a look at how the character we remember actually came together.
Throughout the talk, rare clips and outtakes run across the stage, and he revisits some of the Only Fools and Horses moments that have stuck around: the bar fall, the chandelier disaster and the Batman and Robin sequence. It's less of a performance and more of a long-form chat about how he built a career across stage and screen, with the clips acting as a visual record of the roles he's talking about.
