Panel of UK crime writers J.M. Hall, Lesley McEvoy, Leona Deakin, Rachel North and Chris Nickson discuss the art of crime fiction, with audience questions and a book signing.
Writing Murder: Secrets of the Crime Novel comes to Morley Live on Friday 6 November, with five crime writers on one panel. J.M. Hall, Lesley McEvoy, Leona Deakin, Rachel North and Chris Nickson will be talking through the art of crime fiction, drawing on their own novels to look at the inspiration behind their work, the challenges of crafting a compelling mystery and the realities of bringing unforgettable characters to life. The styles they cover run from psychological suspense and gritty crime to historical mysteries, so there's a fair bit of ground to get through in one sitting.
The session opens up to audience questions and a book signing, and it's aimed at devoted crime fiction readers, aspiring writers and anyone curious about the secrets behind a great thriller. If you've ever wondered how a plot actually comes together or how a character is built from the ground up, this is where you'll hear it described by people who do it for a living.
The evening is part of the Morley Literature Festival, a weekend of events across Morley at venues including Morley Live, Prospect and Unity Hall that celebrates authors, poets and artists with talks, panel discussions and workshops for all ages. It's one of several sessions running over the course of the festival, so if you're into books, there's more to see around the town that weekend.
