Musical adaptation of E.R. Braithwaite's story about an idealistic teacher who transforms a classroom of hardened students.
To Sir, With Love runs at Leeds Grand Theatre from 15 April to 1 May 2027, a new musical adaptation of E.R. Braithwaite's true story. It's widely regarded as the original coming-of-age story, and the musical follows the same ground: an idealistic teacher who takes on a classroom of hardened students and, over time, manages to ignite hope and transformation in them. The production is billed as a celebration of the teachers who change lives.
On the music side, the title song is back, and it's joined by an original score from John Farrar and Kara DioGuardi. Farrar might be a name you recognise from Grease and Xanadu, so the sound sits in that familiar, melodic territory. It's a musical theatre production, not a concert, so the songs are woven into the story rather than standing on their own.
Before you book, there are a few things to keep in mind. The show contains flashing lights, mist, loud noises, adult themes, violence, and strong language, so it's worth checking those against who you're bringing along. It's also not a participatory performance, so you'll be watching from your seat rather than getting involved.
