Manchester tribute band The Smiths Ltd recreates the songs of The Smiths at The Wardrobe in Leeds.
The Smiths Ltd play The Wardrobe on Saturday 7 November, bringing their tribute to The Smiths to Leeds. They're the only Smiths tribute band from Manchester, the city where the original band formed, and they've built their reputation on that connection.
They came together after a long search for a frontman who could match Morrissey, and they played their first gig to a room of avid Smiths fans. Since then, they've moved on to much larger crowds: 2,500 at The Manchester Academy, 4,000 on the main stage at Bestival, Camp Bestival and Kendal Calling, and 15,000 at Spike Island The Resurrection. They describe themselves as obsessed with getting the live sound just right, committed to recreating the energy Morrissey, Johnny Marr, Andy Rourke and Mike Joyce brought to the stage together.
It's a tribute set, so you'll hear the songs you know from the records. The band's focus is on the live sound and the energy of the original four, rather than just the hits. If you've spent years listening to the albums, this is a chance to hear those songs played in a live room.
