A weekend event where visitors can choose from hundreds of new original prints from The Picture Library to take home.
The Picture Library Selection Weekend is back at Leeds Art Gallery from Thursday 14 January to Sunday 17 January. If you've never come across it, the premise is pretty straightforward: for a few days, the gallery opens up hundreds of original prints from The Picture Library and lets visitors pick one to take home and hang on their own wall. It's one of those rare moments when you get to be the curator, choosing a piece of art for yourself rather than just looking at what's been put on display.
The Picture Library is a collection of prints held by the gallery, and the selection weekend is when it actually gets out into the city. Instead of the works staying tucked away in storage or on a rotating exhibition, they're laid out for you to browse through. The whole point is that you get to choose from hundreds of new original artworks, so there's plenty to look through before you settle on the one that works for your space.

It runs from Thursday 14 January through to Sunday 17 January, so you've got the whole weekend to work with if you can't make it in during the week. If you're thinking of going, it's worth keeping in mind that the prints are available on a first-come, first-served basis — the earlier you get there, the wider your choice will be. It's at Leeds Art Gallery in the city centre, so it's an easy trip in if you're coming from across Leeds.
