Seed Talks lecture by nutritionist Natasha Draycott on the gut-brain axis and how the gut microbiome shapes mood, focus and emotional regulation.
The Gut-Brain Connection: Nourish your mind comes to The Wardrobe on Monday 26 October, part of the Seed Talks series that brings live lectures on science, psychology, history, folklore and the arts to Leeds. To date, they've hosted 38 talks and events with more than 12,000 people through the doors.
Nutritionist Natasha Draycott takes the lead on this one, drawing on psychoneuroimmunology to break down the gut-brain axis — the two-way communication between the gut, the brain, the immune system and hormones. She'll explain how the gut microbiome shapes mood, focus, cravings and emotional regulation, and will spend some time demystifying the world of supplements. It's an in-person session, and there's a Q&A at the end, so you can ask your own questions rather than just listening.
Draycott brings a fair bit of experience to the table. She's spent nearly a decade in clinical practice specialising in the brain, epigenetics and nutrition, with work that's covered elite athletes, mental health, cognitive performance and addiction recovery. She's currently completing an MSc in Neuroscience at King's College London and has spoken internationally, including at the 2024 World Conference on Food Science & Technology in Rome.
