Theatrical concert tribute to Dolly Parton with Kelly O'Brien and a live band, playing her hits with storytelling and laughter.
Kelly O'Brien brings The Dolly Show to The Old Woollen on Friday 13 November, a full evening dedicated to the music of Dolly Parton. It's a theatrical concert experience with a live band, and the set runs through Dolly's recording career from the 1960s to the present. You'll hear the songs that most people know by heart — Jolene, 9 to 5, Islands in the Stream, Coat of Many Colours, Here You Come Again and I Will Always Love You — alongside storytelling, laughter and the warmth Dolly is known for.
O'Brien doesn't just do the songs. She's billed as the world's number one Dolly Parton tribute and is endorsed by the Parton family. She's worked as Dolly's body double and was the only UK finalist in the official global casting search for the new Dolly Parton Broadway musical. She's spent more than three decades perfecting the act, so it's more than a few hits strung together; it's a whole evening built around the voice and the persona.
If you're not usually one for tribute acts, the live band makes a difference here — it's a full concert rather than a solo performance. The set covers the early country years as well as the crossover hits, so it touches on the whole span of her career. Between the songs, there's storytelling and the kind of chat you'd expect from a Dolly show, rather than just one track after another.
