A live performance by The Antarctic Monkeys, a UK Arctic Monkeys tribute band, at The Old Woollen.
The Antarctic Monkeys are playing The Old Woollen on Friday 16 October, a tribute to Arctic Monkeys. They're a four-piece who mimic the style of Alex Turner, Jamie Cook, Nick O'Malley and Matt Helders, so the set will be built around the sound of the original band.
They've been at this for a long time. The band formed in March 2006 from a jamming session, the same year the Arctic Monkeys released Whatever People Say I Am, That's What I'm Not, and they've toured the UK and Europe since then. In 2009 they got the nod from people close to the original band, including Chris McClure, who's on the front cover of the debut album, and Jon McClure, brother of Alex Turner and frontman of Reverend and the Makers. They describe themselves as the UK's first and best Arctic Monkeys tribute band.
They've played some decent-sized stages along the way, too. Their highlights include Rock Revolution in Sicily, Oxegen Festival 2010 in Ireland, and the Liverpool Mathew Street Festival, where they played before more than 50,000 people. They've also been covered by Q Magazine, MTV and Sky News.
