A live music performance by the Tara Clerkin Trio, blending avant-pop, modern classical and indie rock, at The Attic in Leeds.
Tara Clerkin Trio play Brudenell Social Club on Tuesday 27 October, in The Attic. It's part of the 'You & Brudenell Presents...' series, so it's one of those nights where the club brings in something a bit more left-of-centre than the usual bill.
The trio formed in Bristol back in 2020 and it's a family affair: Tara Clerkin, her partner Sunny Joe Paradisos, and Sunny's brother Patrick Benjamin. They've been putting out records fairly steadily since then, starting with a self-titled debut in 2020, followed by two mini-albums on London's World of Echo label — In Spring in 2021 and On The Turning Ground in 2023 — and then the full-length Somewhere Good. Between the two EPs and the two albums, there's a fair amount of material to draw from for a single set.
Their sound reaches well beyond the 'Bristol sound' they're often linked to, pulling from avant-pop, modern classical, kraut-folk and indie rock. The instrumentation is part of the draw: harmonium, upright bass, wind instruments and manipulated vocals, all working together rather than sitting in separate lanes. It's the kind of music that sits somewhere between a folk club and a contemporary classical recital, and hearing it live is the only way to really get how those different elements fit together.
