Stained Glass Saturday Workshop with Sam Yates

Samantha Yates is running a stained glass workshop at Swarthmore Education Centre on Saturday 17 October, from 10:00 to 15:30. It's a one-day session, and it's open to mixed abilities, so you don't need to have ever touched a piece of glass to join in. If you're already working on a project at home, you can bring it along and spend the day getting it finished with a bit of professional guidance.

Over the course of the day, you'll learn how to use glass tools to cut and shape glass, and you'll get a handle on the difference between the copper foil and leaded techniques. You'll leave with a simple design of your own to take home. Yates is a professional glass artist and a tutor who tailors each session to the experience level of the people in the room, so whether you're starting from scratch or just looking for a bit of help with a piece you've already begun, you'll be working at your own pace.

The workshop is for adults only. It's held at Swarthmore Education Centre, 2-7 Woodhouse Square, Leeds LS3 1AD, which is a centre for lifelong learning, community projects and family learning. It's geared towards people who want to learn but might not feel comfortable in more formal educational institutions, and it works on a friendly, human scale. On top of the courses, they run a confidential counselling service and learning support.

It runs from 10:00 to 15:30 on Saturday 17 October, and the cost is £85.00.
