Hands-on workshop led by audio artist Rosie Parsons to pick up a microphone, capture sounds around Chapel FM and edit them into a short soundscape.
Rosie Parsons is running a soundscape workshop called Sounding the local at Chapel FM Arts Centre on Sunday 18 October, from 10:00am to 1:00pm. It's a hands-on session for anyone who wants to record and reshape the world around them: you pick a microphone, capture sounds inside and outside the centre, listen back, and edit them into a short soundscape. No prior experience is required, so you don't need to know your way around a recording rig to get involved.
Parsons is a Leeds-based audio producer and artist whose work sits between electronic music and radio documentary. Her audio journey started with work for Radiophrenia, and since then she's produced audio walks, performances and installations commissioned by the Manchester Jazz Festival, the National Railway Museum, Leeds Museums and Galleries and the British Library. Much of her work focuses on listening to archives and exploring utopian ideas and their legacies, weaving them into a rich sonic tapestry. She's currently the artist in residence at Chapel FM, so this workshop comes from her time working within the centre itself.
