Five-week course at Bowery in which students use palette knives and large brushes to paint the Yorkshire landscape in expressive acrylics.
Bowery is running a five-week course in expressive landscape painting with acrylics, starting Monday 25 January 2027. It's a five-week run, two hours a session, and it's taught by Sandra, the gallery's owner and exhibition curator. She's a former secondary school art teacher who has taught in national museums and galleries, and these 'Sketch & Paint' classes draw on more than two decades of experience.
Over the five weeks, you'll work with palette knives and bold, large brushes, so it's more about broad strokes and texture than fine detail. The first three sessions take the Yorkshire landscape as inspiration, and the final two turn to personal expression. All the paint and paper are supplied, though you can bring your own canvas or board for those last two sessions if you'd rather work on something you can keep.

It runs from 6pm to 8pm on Monday evenings, so it's a proper after-work thing. The course costs £136.14 for the full five weeks, and it's held at Bowery, 54 Otley Road, Leeds LS6 2AL. Tickets are non-refundable, but you can get credit or transfer to another course or workshop if you give at least two weeks' notice.
