Interactive screening of The Rocky Horror Picture Show with call-outs and singing, followed by a Halloween-themed club night and costume contest at Wharf Chambers.
The Rocky Horror Picture Show is screening at Wharf Chambers on Saturday 31 October, presented by S0ph1nat0r. It's a late one, starting at 11:45 PM and running through to 4:00 AM on Sunday morning, so it's more of a Halloween night out than a casual cinema trip.
This isn't a sit-back-and-watch screening. It's billed as interactive, with call-outs and singing throughout, and once the film finishes, it carries on into a Halloween-themed club night. There's a costume contest with prizes, so it's the kind of night where dressing up is half the point. The whole thing is listed by TimeWarp, the official UK Rocky Horror fan club, which is run by fans for fans.
Wharf Chambers is a bar and venue in the centre of Leeds, run as a workers' co-op together with a members' club as a not-for-profit space for music, art, film, politics and discussion. It's on the ground floor of a Victorian former pork pie factory on Wharf Street, on the edge of The Calls near the back of the Corn Exchange, and has a beer garden. Access is by membership only — £2 a year or £15 for life, and each member can bring up to three guests. The venue works to a safer spaces agreement and has gender-neutral toilets, a wheelchair-accessible cubicle with a baby changer, and a permanent hearing loop. There's also a free Radical Lending Library stocking books on race, gender, sexuality, queerness, class and radical politics.
