Punk and live music night with Rotunda, Loaded 44, The Hi-Fi Spitfires and Kamikaze Taxis at The Packhorse in Hyde Park.
Rotunda are playing The Packhorse in Hyde Park on Sunday 25 October, with Loaded 44, The Hi-Fi Spitfires and Kamikaze Taxis sharing the bill. It's a four-band run, so there's plenty to get through across the afternoon.
Rotunda are a Birmingham punk band who've been around since 1996. They started out as a 'Power Violence' experimental hardcore act before moving into a more melodic hardcore style. The early line-up featured ex-Depth Charge frontman Louis Warren on vocals, Dave Cain on bass, Steve Wynne-Jones on drums and Mike 'Pikey' Pike on guitar. They recorded their first demo in March 1997 at Birmingham's Reel to Reel studio, and 'Neutron Bomb' became a fan favourite from those early sessions. Their live debut came on 2 May 1997, supporting Snuff at Birmingham's Que Club.
In 2001 they played the 'Holidays in the sun' punk festival in Morecambe, where they caught the ear of Radio 1 DJ Steve Lamacq, who played 'Neutron Bomb' on his Evening Session. It took another decade for the debut album to arrive: Chalk It Up came out in 2011 and ran to 26 songs. The current line-up includes Stew Tyler (Angry Bombs) on lead guitar and Neil Harvey (First Class Tramp) on rhythm guitar.
