Police bike-marking event on the Rodley canal towpath offering free cycle security advice and registration on BikeRegister.
The local neighbourhood policing team is running a free bike registration session on Saturday 24 October, down by the canal in Rodley. They'll be set up on the Rodley Canal Towpath, near The Tiny Tea Rooms at Calverley Bridge, LS13 1NF, from 09:00 until 14:30.
It's a straightforward one: they'll mark your bike and register it onto the BikeRegister online database. The whole thing is free, and it's run by the police themselves. If you're already out for a ride or a walk along the towpath, you can just roll up and get it sorted on the spot. It takes a few minutes, and you don't need to book anything in advance.
There's a practical reason for doing it. Registering your bike helps the police and retailers identify and verify the legitimate owner if a cycle is stolen or resold, which makes it a lot harder for stolen bikes to be shifted on. Along with the marking, the officers will be on hand to give out cycle security advice, so it's a good chance to ask about locks or how to better secure your bike at home or on the street.
