Paul Marshall returns to the stage for a rare live performance, spanning his solo work and his former Lone Wolf material, with support from Fran Rodgers.
Paul Marshall is back on stage at Hyde Park Book Club on Saturday 24 October, his first live show in more than a decade. It's a rare one, and the timing is the point: it marks the 20th anniversary of his debut album, Vultures. He's playing under his own name this time, rather than the Lone Wolf moniker he retired in 2016, and the set will pull from his entire career, combining his solo work with material he wrote as Lone Wolf.
If the name doesn't ring a bell, the background might. Marshall was a Bella Union artist who built a reputation for atmospheric, multi-layered songwriting and a distinctive voice, becoming a quietly influential figure in the UK alternative scene. Over the years he's shared stages with José González, Graham Coxon, Philip Selway, St. Vincent, Wild Beasts and Bat for Lashes, and collaborated with Alan Wilder of Depeche Mode and Linton Kwesi Johnson. This is the first time he's been back in front of an audience since he stepped away from the stage.
Support comes from fellow Leeds musician Fran Rodgers, who blends delicate melodies with lyrical depth and a strong voice. Between the two, it's a night of songwriting that leans on the melodic and the atmospheric rather than the loud.
