Free-to-ticket comedy and spoken word show by Sam Porter, previewing the Out of Line festival.
Sam Porter is performing at Hope House on Saturday 21 November, a comedy and spoken word show that doubles as a preview of the Out of Line festival. It's a one-person night, with Porter taking the stage alone to work through material that sits right on the line between stand-up and storytelling.
The show centres on two things that don't usually get a lot of airtime in a comedy room: grief and the autistic experience. It's not a punchline-a-minute set; the comedy comes from the way Porter talks about those things, and the spoken word side lets the heavier moments land without having to rush past them. By putting them together, the night manages to be funny and quite raw at the same time, and it's that balance that gives the whole thing its shape.
Because it's a preview, this is one of the first times the show is being played out in front of an audience before it goes on to the Out of Line festival. It's a good chance to see it in a smaller room, where the storytelling side of the performance can really do its work.
