Stage adaptation of John Steinbeck's novel, directed by Larry Lamb and adapted by Nigel Miles-Thomas, at The Old Woollen.
Of Mice and Men comes to The Old Woollen on Wednesday 21 October, a stage adaptation of John Steinbeck's classic novel. It's the story of George and Lennie, two drifters working their way through the Great Depression with a simple, shared dream: to save enough to buy their own farm and live off the land. They move from one job to another across Soledad, California, until a tragic turn of events threatens their friendship and leaves George facing an impossible choice.
The production is adapted for the stage by Nigel Miles-Thomas, with the performance itself featuring Nigel Miles-Thomas and Michael Roy Andrew, directed by Larry Lamb. It's presented by arrangement with Music Theatre International, so it's a professional take on the material rather than a local fringe piece. If you've read the book, you know the territory—the friendship between the two men, the harshness of the era they're working in, and the way the dream of that farm keeps them going until it doesn't.

It's a two-person show, so the whole thing rests on the chemistry between the two actors on stage. The story is a well-known one, but seeing it played out in the room is a different experience from reading it on the page. The Old Woollen is over in Farsley, at Sunny Bank Mills, 83-85 Town Street, Leeds LS28 5UJ. The performance runs from 19:00 to 23:00, and tickets are £16.00.
