Annual informal scratch night by Yorkshire Dance where North dance artists show short works-in-progress to a live audience, with feedback and an open bar.
No Dress Code returns to the Studio Theatre at Yorkshire Dance on Friday 20 November, starting at 7:30pm. It's Yorkshire Dance's informal scratch night, held once a year in their studio theatre and open to dance artists based in the North who're no longer in full-time education or training.
Three or four selected artists show short works-in-progress, five to fifteen minutes each, to a live audience. They get a fee of £135 and studio space during the week of the event if they need it and it's available; artists apply each spring to take part. After the performances, there's a relaxed chance to share feedback and insights, and the bar is open before and after. It's a night for seeing new work while it's still being shaped, rather than a polished showcase.
Past line-ups have brought together a wide range of voices: Orla Collier, Alex Gosmore & Imo Wright, Inari Hulkkonen, Excessive Human Collective, Zoe Katsilerou, Akeim Toussant Buck, Ella Mesma, Joshua Haigh, flora, Hannah Buckley & Hollie Miller, Sophie Brain, Move Manchester and Iolanda Portogallo. The mix changes every year, so it's hard to say exactly what the night will sound like until the artists are announced.
