Nick Cope plays guitar and animations for children and families, following on from his CBeebies show 'Nick Cope's Popcast'.
Nick Cope is playing City Varieties Music Hall on Thursday 29 October, a family show that sits right in the middle of the school holidays. It's a morning slot, starting at 11:00am and running for about an hour, so it's the kind of thing you can get the kids to and still have the rest of the day ahead of you.
Cope has been writing and recording songs for children and families for over a decade, and the live set is pretty straightforward: him with his guitar and animations, playing to sell-out crowds across the country. He's probably best known from the CBeebies show Nick Cope's Popcast, and that's where a lot of the following grew from. The songs are for the kids, but the reviews have always leaned into the musical side of things. Steve Lamacq of BBC Radio 6 Music called him "the Ray Davies for the pre-teen generation", and The Guardian dubbed him "The Poptimistic Pied Piper, of discerningly musical toddlers". Stewart Lee went a bit further, describing him as "the indie-surrealist kids' entertainer Robyn Hitchcock and Syd Barrett, foolishly distracted by cult status, never were".
