Showcase of three new works by choreographers Chris Evans, Amaury Lebrun and Imogen Reeve with Northern School of Contemporary Dance students.
NEW GROUND 2026 opens at The Riley Theatre on Thursday 3 December, running through to Saturday 5 December. It's the Northern School of Contemporary Dance's showcase for the next generation of dancers and dance makers, and the bill this year is built around three new works made for and with NSCD undergraduate students by Chris Evans, Amaury Lebrun and Imogen Reeve, alongside original student work.
That mix of professional and student creation is exactly how the school works. Students hone their craft through an intensive performance programme that pairs them with visiting professional choreographers, and leaves regular room for them to create and perform their own work. So the three pieces by Evans, Lebrun and Reeve sit alongside work the students have made themselves.
The Riley Theatre is the school's home in Chapeltown, and it runs a year-round programme that mixes professional visiting companies, student showcases and community platforms. It's built a reputation for staging work by some of the most original dance artists on the UK and international scene, and the school also runs its own contemporary dance company, Verve, which performs at the Riley and across the UK and Europe.
