Acoustic guitar night by Nathan Salsburg, described as one of his generation's most idiosyncratic acoustic guitarists, with guests, at The Attic in the Brudenell Social Club.
Nathan Salsburg plays Brudenell Social Club on Wednesday 5 May 2027, in The Attic. He's billed as Nathan Salsburg + Guests, so there will be more on stage than just him. The night is put on by Brudenell Presents, the promoter arm of the club, whose mission is to promote equality and diversity through music, art and culture.
Salsburg is an acoustic guitarist who's been releasing solo albums since 2011 — eight of them to date. He's often described as one of his generation's most gifted and idiosyncratic players, and the style he's developed over those years is one of depth and complexity. It draws on minimalism, rural American vernacular musics and British folk revivalists like Dick Gaughan, Dolly Collins and Nic Jones. If those names ring a bell, you've got a good idea of the territory he works in: quiet, textural, and rooted in folk tradition.
He's a frequent collaborator, too. He works often with songwriter and singer Joan Shelley, his wife, and with Chicago multi-instrumentalist James Elkington. Beyond his own records, he's contributed to recordings by Shirley Collins, Bonnie 'Prince' Billy, The Weather Station and Jake Xerxes Fussell. For twenty years he served as curator of the digital Alan Lomax Archive, so he's spent a long time immersed in the kind of field recordings and folk traditions that feed into his own playing.
