Live blues performance by Irish guitarist and singer Muireann Bradley at Crash Records, part of her Record Store Tour.
Muireann Bradley plays Crash Records on Wednesday 28 October, as part of her Record Store Tour. She's an Irish guitarist and singer from Ballybofey, County Donegal, who picked up the guitar at nine, following the example of her blues-loving father.
Her debut album, I Kept These Old Blues, was recorded between lockdowns during the Covid pandemic, starting when she was just fourteen. The first pressing sold out and has since become a collector's item. The record leans on the blues songbook, with covers of figures like Blind Blake, Rev Gary Davis and Mississippi John Hurt, and she draws on the stories of pioneers like Elizabeth Cotten and Memphis Minnie. Industry figures took notice, among them Jools Holland, who invited her to perform on the Hootenanny.
The Leeds date is part of her Record Store Tour, which takes her into independent record shops rather than traditional venues. It's a fitting way to see her work, given that I Kept These Old Blues was born from a love of the old blues records that still find their way into these shops. The set will be a live performance, with Bradley on guitar and vocals.
