Introductory monoprinting workshop using oil-based inks and the print workshop's etching presses to make unique prints.
Leeds Print Workshop is running a Monoprinting Taster on Tuesday 3 November, from 18:00 to 21:00. It's an introductory session, so if you've never touched a printing press before, this is a good place to start. The workshop is at Patrick Studios, LS9 7EH, a short walk from the train and bus stations in the city centre.
Monoprinting is a fast-paced, experimental way of working where every print is a one-off. You work with stencils, printing plates and richly coloured oil-based inks, building up a playful layering process to create bold, vibrant prints full of texture, depth and unexpected effects. Along the way, you'll pick up the fundamentals of printmaking and get to use the workshop's etching presses, which are usually the part most people find the most satisfying.
It's worth knowing a bit about the place itself. Leeds Print Workshop is a membership-based, not-for-profit printmaking co-operative and studio in the centre of the city, open to anyone with an interest in print. They run workshops and courses in a range of traditional printmaking processes alongside studio access for members, with the aim of providing an affordable and accessible workshop space. If you enjoy the taster, there's a whole community there to keep you going.
