Concert by singer-songwriter Margaret Glaspy presenting her album 'I Am Both' at the Howard Assembly Room.
Margaret Glaspy plays the Howard Assembly Room on Wednesday 21 October, with FAIRHAZEL opening. She's touring her fourth full-length album, I Am Both, which she recorded live over three days at New York City's Reservoir Studios with drummer Jay Bellerose, keyboardist Patrick Warren and bassist Ross Gallagher. The record was produced by three-time Grammy winner Joe Henry.
Glaspy is a Northern California-born singer, songwriter and producer now based in New York. Her sound blends intimate folk roots with a gritty indie-rock edge, held together by an articulate guitar technique and direct vocals. She first earned widespread critical acclaim with her self-produced 2016 debut Emotions and Math, and has since released Devotion and Echo the Diamond.
I Am Both came after she stepped away from social media and began writing lyrics in longhand, then polishing them on a typewriter. The title track is built around a female character she admires, a woman who contains multitudes while seeing reality very clearly. Glaspy has been a fiddle player since the age of three and grew up at the Shasta String Summit alongside musicians like Edgar Meyer and Aoife O'Donovan; she cites Sister Rosetta Tharpe, Bob Dylan and Lucinda Williams as major influences.
