Live gig by Scottish indie folk singer-songwriter Malcolm Middleton, former member of Arab Strap, at Hyde Park Book Club.
Malcolm Middleton plays Hyde Park Book Club on Tuesday 10 November, with the night starting at 7:30 pm. He's a Scottish guitarist and songwriter who first made his name in the lo-fi folk group Arab Strap, and he kept his solo career running alongside the band until they split in 2006. Born and raised in Falkirk, he's put out seven solo albums since then, from 5:14 Fluoxytine Seagull Alcohol John Nicotine in 2002 through to Bananas in 2018.
His solo work blends introspective lyrics with indie rock and pop, and he's never shy about looking at depression and human relationships with a darkly humorous edge. The Observer Music Monthly described his songwriting as personal, harrowing and heartfelt, while The Sunday Telegraph compared his acoustic guitar playing to a young Paul Simon and placed him in the company of Nick Cave, Leonard Cohen and Johnny Cash.
Beyond the solo records, he's worked with artists like David Shrigley and Mira Calix, and composed soundtracks for the films Rogue Farm, Munro and The Closer We Get. He also records under the names Human Don't Be Angry and Lichen Slow, so there's more to his output than just the albums under his own name.
