Hands-on cooking session by Alwoodley 2030 where a group turns leftover vegetables into a shared homemade soup.
Alwoodley 2030 are running a soup-making session at the Marjorie and Arnold Ziff Building in Moortown on Sunday 31 January, from 11am to 1pm. It's part of the group's food-and-drink offering, and the premise is as straightforward as it sounds: a pile of random leftover vegetables gets turned into a hearty, homemade soup.
The session is run as a group effort. You'll be chopping and cooking alongside a room of strangers, everyone getting stuck in together rather than watching someone else do the work. Once the soup is ready, you sit down and eat it on the spot. It's framed as a fun, hands-on experience for anyone who loves food, sustainability, or just wants to try something new.
There's a bit of a double meaning to it, too. Alwoodley 2030 describe it as turning a sustainability lesson into a social one: the sustainability part is the waste-reduction—taking vegetables that might otherwise have gone to waste and making something useful from them—and the social part is the act of a group of strangers gathering to do it together. It's less of a formal class and more of a communal cook-up.
