Plymouth folk band Mad Dog Mcrea play the Brudenell Social Club on their Dusk Till Dawn Autumn Tour 2026.
Mad Dog Mcrea are playing Brudenell Social Club on Sunday 15 November, part of their Dusk Till Dawn autumn tour. They're a Plymouth folk band fronted by Jon Stopporton, with Dan Crimp, Michael Mathieson and Nicki Powell, and they travel in their own purple happy bus. The set is built on foot-stomping rhythms, intricate musicianship and sharp, often humorous songwriting.
Their sound pulls from a few different places at once: folk rock, pop, gypsy jazz, bluegrass and shanties. The songs they write themselves cover adventure, drinking, love and life, and they mix those in with traditional songs about gypsies, fairies, legless pirates and black flies. With five albums behind them, they're as much recording artists as live ones, and the press have called them 'musical magicians' and described their music as 'rowdy, heartfelt, room-shaking and spirit-stirring'.
They bill themselves as a 'pop-up festival' and promise songs of love and hope, joy and doom, devilry and debauchery to make you drink, dance and party your worries away. It's a broad range of themes to fit into one afternoon, and the mix of self-penned songs and traditional ones means the set pulls from both their own writing and the folk tradition they work within.
