Beginner-friendly macramé workshop with Hannah Sibai where attendees learn knots and techniques to make their own plant hanger.
Hannah Sibai of Dear Prudence Macramé is running a macramé plant hanger workshop at Swarthmore Education Centre on Saturday 14 November, from 11:00 to 13:30. It's built for absolute beginners and anyone wanting to pick up the art of macramé, so you don't need any prior experience to join in.
Over the course of the morning, Sibai guides you through several different knots and techniques, the kind of basic building blocks you can use again in future projects. Everyone leaves with their own plant hanger to fill with a trailing plant of their choice, and all the materials are provided on the day, including the cotton macramé cord and a plant pot. It's a hands-on session, so you'll be doing the work yourself rather than just watching.
The workshop takes place at Swarthmore Education Centre, a centre for lifelong learning, community projects and family learning. It's a place that aims to encourage people who want to learn but might not feel comfortable in more formal educational institutions, working on a friendly, human scale and offering a confidential counselling service and learning support alongside its courses. If you've been wanting to try something creative but weren't sure where to start, that's exactly the kind of environment this is set up for.
