Free open evening to find out about the Lighthouse Futures Trust's pre-internship and supported internship programmes for young people with SEND.
Lighthouse Futures Trust are holding an open evening at White Rose House Private Car Park in Headingley on Thursday 15 October, from 5pm to 7pm. It's a structured session for anyone wanting to find out more about their internships and the opportunities they run for young people.
To get why it matters, it helps to know what they actually do. The Trust runs a Pre-Internship Programme that lasts one or two years, following the Leeds City Council academic year across three terms. It's designed for young people with SEND and additional support needs, with the aim of helping them grow in confidence, explore their strengths and take real steps towards paid employment.
Beyond that are the Supported Internships, which are work-based programmes for young adults aged 18 to 25 with an EHCP, as well as for those taking part in the Trust's non-EHCP Programme. Trained Job Coaches work alongside interns at employer hosts like John Lewis, the NHS, KPMG, Crag House Farm and Arla, so they work as part of a small team for three or four days a week. The remaining one or two days are spent at the Trust's Headingley college site, with a curriculum focused on employability, independence skills and well-being.
Every week we pick 🏆 the 5 best 🏆 things to do in Leeds and send them to your inbox. Just one weekly email, no spam.
