Leeds United v Everton

Leeds United take on Everton at Elland Road on Friday 1 January, a Premier League clash that falls right on New Year's Day. It's the first football of the new year, and it's a home game for Leeds, so it's one of those early-season fixtures that usually draws a proper crowd.

Coming into it, both sides will be looking to set the tone for the rest of the campaign. Leeds have the home advantage here, and there's always something different about a New Year's Day game — the atmosphere around the ground tends to be a bit more festive than your usual Saturday afternoon, especially with the holiday crowd coming through. Everton make the trip up from Merseyside, and for them, it's a long way to travel for a Friday night away day, so they'll be hoping to make the journey count.

It's a Premier League match, so the stakes are exactly what you'd expect from the top flight. Three points on the board on the first day of the year is a decent way to start the calendar, and with both teams fighting for their place in the table, it's a game that could go either way. Whether you're a regular at Elland Road or just fancy a day out with the football on, it's a good one to have marked down.

Kick-off is at 20:00, so it's a night game rather than a matinee, which means you've got the whole day to get sorted before heading over. Tickets are available through the official channels, and with it being a New Year's Day fixture, it's worth getting yours sorted early rather than leaving it until the last minute. It's Leeds United v Everton at Elland Road, Friday 1 January, 20:00.
