Self-guided audio tour of fifteen landmarks along the Leeds and Liverpool Canal, narrated through the free AudaTours app.
Leeds Heritage & Hidden Gems Audio Odyssey is a self-guided audio tour that runs from Leeds City Museum in Millennium Square, and it's available from 3 October through to 31 December 2026. It's delivered through the free AudaTours app, and since it works offline with lifetime access, you can take it at your own pace whenever you fancy a wander.
The route takes you beyond the city's shopfronts and railway arches, following the Leeds and Liverpool Canal out of the town centre and towards the outskirts. You'll be tracing canal towpaths lined with Victorian mills, stopping at fifteen landmarks across 4.6 kilometres, with up to 38 minutes of narration to listen to along the way. It's a decent stretch of walking, so it's more of a morning or afternoon thing than a quick pop out.
What makes it work is the storytelling. The tour leans on history, scandal and the kind of detail a plaque alone would never tell. You'll hear about the crisis that nearly sank the Asda empire before a stunning rescue, the rock revolution that began under an unassuming archway at The Cockpit, and the hidden feud that threatened to tear towns apart over the canal's route. It's less about dates and more about the people and the drama that left their mark on the city.
