KEG play Hyde Park Book Club on Saturday 14 November, with Troutflies and O'Buffet on support. It's their latest Leeds date, and they're touring their new album, Relaxing Near the Hospital.
If you've followed them for a while, you'll know they've spent the last six years refusing to settle on one sound. They've built a reputation on frenetic live shows and a willingness to shift gears mid-set, and Relaxing Near the Hospital continues that. It's a record that sits between tender and vitriolic, pulling from hardcore on one end and Steely Dan-leaning crooner tracks on the other — the latter drawing comparisons to Ween. It's the kind of album that doesn't stay in one place for long.
This follows a few years of steady momentum. They put out two critically acclaimed EPs, Assembly in 2021 and Girders in 2022, and landed a DIY Class of 2023 slot. Their debut album, Fun's Over, charted in the top 75, and they've played festival stages like Greenman, Latitude, Dour and Vida. The new material should sit alongside the older stuff they've been playing live, so you'll get a good look at where they've come from as well as where they are now.
