Acoustic solo show by Yorkshire guitarist Jon Gomm, who was voted 'Best Acoustic Guitarist In The World' in 2020, plus guests.
Jon Gomm plays Brudenell Social Club on Thursday 22 October, with doors opening at 19:30. He's a Yorkshire-based singer-songwriter and acoustic solo performer, so this is a home-turf show for him. He'll be joined by guests on the bill.
If you're not familiar with how he plays, it's a bit of a thing to see in the flesh. He works with a virtuoso guitar style that leans on slapping, tapping and retuning to build a multi-layered sound — bass, drums and near-orchestral depth all from a single instrument. It's the kind of thing that's easier to watch than to describe. In 2020 he was voted 'Best Acoustic Guitarist In The World' in MusicRadar/Guitar World's largest online poll of its kind, and in 2021 Ibanez launched the JGM10 and JGM5 Jon Gomm Signature Model guitars, making him only the third guitarist ever to design a signature acoustic with the brand, after Joe Satriani and Steve Vai.
One of his songs, 'Passionflower', placed sixth in Total Guitar's '50 Greatest Acoustic Guitar Songs Of All Time' in 2023, so that's a good place to start if you want to get a feel for the set. Beyond the music, he's a passionate advocate for mental health and neuro-diversity, and that's a part of who he is as well as what he does.
