Free introductory workshop on asset-based community development (ABCD) led by Jo and Clarrie from LS14 Trust, open to Leeds community and third sector organisations.
New Wortley Community Centre is hosting a free introductory session on Asset-Based Community Development (ABCD) on Thursday 3 December, from 10am to 12pm. It's led by Jo and Clarrie from LS14 Trust, and it's open to any community or third sector organisation working across Leeds.
If you've never come across the term, ABCD is a way of working with people and communities that starts with what's strong rather than what's wrong. The idea is to shift away from the usual top-down approach, where outside agencies come in with a set of solutions, and instead look at the assets and strengths already there within a community. Over the two hours, the session will go through the core principles and practices of the approach, so you'll leave with a decent handle on how it actually works in practice.
It's not just theory, either. The workshop sits alongside Leeds City Council's ABCD Pathfinder project, and it draws on case studies from LS14 Trust, a place-based community organisation in Seacroft, East Leeds, which has embedded the ABCD approach throughout its own organisation and the way it works. So you'll get to hear how it's been used on the ground in the city, rather than just hearing the pitch.

The whole thing is funded through the Leeds City Council ABCD Programme, which is why it's free to attend. It runs from 10am to 12pm at New Wortley Community Centre, 40 Tong Road, Armley, LS12 1LZ, and it's open to any community or third sector group from across Leeds.
