Panel discussion with authors Matson Taylor, Iqbal Hussain and Milly Johnson, hosted by Faye Marshall, about how heritage and family history shape storytelling.
Inherited Stories: How Heritage Shapes the Tales We Tell is a panel discussion at Morley Live CIC on Saturday 7 November, from 19:00 to 21:00. It's part of the Morley Literature Festival, which runs from Thursday 5 to Sunday 8 November, with author talks, panel events and workshops for young and old spread across Morley Live, Prospect and Unity Hall to keep the festival at the heart of the town.
Host Faye Marshall leads a group of best-selling authors — Matson Taylor, Iqbal Hussain and Milly Johnson — in a conversation about identity, heritage and the power of storytelling. They'll be drawing on family histories, cultural traditions, place, belonging and lived experience to explore how writers build authentic characters and compelling narratives, why representation matters and how stories help us understand ourselves and one another. It's the kind of talk that gets into the mechanics of writing, but keeps it grounded in the personal stuff that actually shapes a story.
If you're into the festival, there's more to it than just this one night. The whole thing runs across four days, with talks, panels and workshops for all ages shared between Morley Live, Prospect and Unity Hall, so it's spread right through the town rather than tucked away in one spot. This particular session sits on the Saturday, with the authors talking through their work and the way their own backgrounds feed into what they write.
