DreamWorks' 'How to Train Your Dragon' shown in HD with John Powell's score performed live to picture by the Orchestra of Opera North.
How to Train Your Dragon in Concert comes to Leeds Grand Theatre on Tuesday 27 October, with the film shown in HD on the stage and the score played live from the pit. It's the Orchestra of Opera North on the music, performing John Powell's Academy Award-nominated score in time with the picture. If you've seen the film before, that's the draw here: hearing the music live rather than through the speakers.
For those who need a refresher, the story follows Hiccup, a young Viking who goes against tradition by befriending a ferocious dragon he names Toothless. Together they fight to save both their worlds. It's a mix of humour, fire-breathing action and epic scale, and it won over audiences and critics alike when it first came out.
The concert experience puts the film on the big screen with the orchestra playing live to it, so you're watching the movie as it happens. The whole thing runs about two hours and ten minutes, including an interval, and carries a PG rating for mild threat, scary scenes, violence and language. It's the kind of thing that works as a family outing, but it's just as easy to go on your own if you're a fan of the score.
