Beginner workshop to learn acrylic paint pouring techniques such as ring pouring and flip cup pouring, leaving with a finished artwork and a craft kit.
Hobbycraft in Leeds is hosting a beginner's guide to acrylic paint pouring on Sunday 25 October, and it's exactly what it sounds like: a session for anyone who's never tried it before. The whole thing runs for 60 minutes, so it's a single hour's commitment rather than a full day's course.
If you're not familiar with paint pouring, it's a bit of a departure from how most of us think about painting. Instead of using a brush to apply paint to a canvas, you let the paint flow and mingle on its own, creating those fluid, marbled effects that look like something you'd see in a gallery. A Hobbycraft colleague leads the class, walking you through a couple of different methods: ring pouring, where you pour the paint through a ring to create concentric circles, and flip cup pouring, where you fill a cup and flip it over to let the colours spread across the canvas. You'll get to try both, so you can see which one you prefer.
One of the best bits is that you don't leave empty-handed. You'll walk away with the piece of artwork you made during the session, and you also get a craft kit to take home, so you can keep going with it on your own afterwards. It's aimed at adults and is suitable for anyone aged 14 and over, which makes it an easy one to bring a teenager along to if you're fancying a creative afternoon together.

The session costs £35. It's part of a wider series running at 20 Hobbycraft locations across the UK on various dates and times, so if the Leeds one doesn't quite fit your schedule, there are other options to look at. Just keep in mind that you need to book at least four weeks in advance, so if you're eyeing up the 25th, you'll want to get your name down well ahead of time.
