Backyard Ultra race where runners complete a 4.167-mile loop every hour, with the last person standing crowned champion.
God's Own Backyard Ultra returns to Hunters Greave on Saturday 14 November, with the race starting at 8am on the dot. It's part of the Backyard Ultra Series, and it follows the format that gives the whole thing its name: runners set off on the hour, every hour, to complete a 4.167-mile loop. You have to finish the loop within the hour to earn your place in the next one. There's no set distance and no set time; the last person standing is crowned champion, and everyone else is recorded as DNF.
The course isn't flat, with elevation gain on every lap, and it runs over a mixture of canal towpath, farmland trail, woodland trail and tarmac paths. There's a modified night loop that avoids crossing the canal in the dark, so you aren't navigating the water when visibility drops. The whole thing is fully waymarked and marshalled, with hot and cold water, fruit, sweets, camping, toilets and first aid cover on hand. Every participant gets a bespoke Yorkshire goodie bag, too. A place in Big Dog's Backyard Ultra is on the line through the BYU Championship.
