Live show by indie folk and art rock singer-songwriter Gia Ford at Oporto in Leeds.
Gia Ford plays Oporto on Thursday 22nd October, with the set running from 7:30 pm to 10:30 pm. It's a headline show, so it's just her on the bill.
If you haven't come across her yet, Ford is a songwriter who builds her songs around the stories of the downtrodden and the downright dangerous. She grew up between Sheffield and Cheshire after her parents divorced, and developed an early passion for poetry and original songwriting β a combination she sets to music. Her debut album, Transparent Things, came out in 2024 and carries a Sheffield swagger with nods to alt-pop and psychedelic sleaze. It earned strong critical acclaim, with CLASH Magazine calling her a 'striking indie it-girl to watch'.
Her sound has since been described as pop rock, art rock and folk noir, and the haunting single 'Alligator' is among her more recent releases. She's cited Kate Bush, BjΓΆrk, The Rolling Stones and Dusty Springfield as influences, and you can hear those threads running through the record. The set will draw from Transparent Things, so it's a good chance to hear the album as it was intended.
