Live folk-pop gig by Gary Stewart with special guests David Ford, Ellie Gowers, Alex Hart and Sam Lawrence at the Brudenell Social Club.
Gary Stewart plays Brudenell Social Club on Sunday 25 October, with David Ford, Ellie Gowers, Alex Hart and Sam Lawrence as special guests. It's a full bill for a Sunday night in Headingley, with Stewart taking the main slot and four other names filling out the evening.
Stewart is a Scottish singer-songwriter from Perth who cut his teeth on the Leeds music scene before settling in York, where he lives and works now. He writes in a folk-pop vein and draws mostly on the singer-songwriters of the 1960s and 1970s, with Paul Simon cited as his biggest inspiration. Northern Sky once described him as "reminiscent of a 1960s bedsit-era Paul Simon," which gives you a fair idea of the territory he works in.
He's released four albums, including Lost, Now Found, which he recorded, produced and released himself in June 2021, and Use It Or Lose It, recorded in a barn studio in the Yorkshire Dales. That one featured collaborations with Seth Lakeman, David Ford, Alex Hart and Ellie Gowers — three of whom are on the bill for this show. Outside his solo work, he plays bass for the Leeds Fleetwood Mac tribute act Weetwood Mac, fronts his own reworking of Paul Simon's Graceland with a seven-piece band, and has played festivals like Kendal Calling, Green Man, Deershed and Shrewsbury Folk Festival.
