Musical comedy duo Flo & Joan return to the stage with their new show 'With Feeling', in which they write their own setlist from another band's songs.
Flo & Joan are back on stage at the City Varieties Music Hall on Sunday 8 November, with two performances on the one day: a matinee at 2:30pm and an evening show at 7:30pm. It's a brand-new show from the musical comedy duo, and the whole thing is built around a single, rather odd conceit: they take another 'real band's' setlist and use it as the blueprint to write their own. Between the songs, they ruminate on questions like 'what is music?', 'how do you be a band?' and 'is comedy?' — all delivered in their signature sharp-tongued, deadpan style.
If you've come across them before, you'll know the format. They're a critically acclaimed duo who write and perform their own musical comedy, and this new show follows that same thread. The setlist they're working from is the starting point, but the songs they build on top of it are entirely their own. The whole thing runs about an hour and 50 minutes, including an interval, and carries 16+ age guidance.
They've spent the last few years appearing on Live at the Apollo, The Royal Variety Performance and Comic Relief's Red Nose Day Live 2023, and they filmed their own comedy special, Alive on Stage, for Amazon Prime. The reviews have been kind: The Telegraph called their numbers 'intricately crafted, flawlessly performed', and The Times wrote that they 'coat every moment with jokes, jokes, jokes'.
