Free creative workshop to make felt Christmas decorations at the Victorian Abbey House Museum in Kirkstall.
Abbey House Museum is hosting a Festive Felt Christmas Decorations workshop on Thursday 26 November, from 14:30 to 16:30. It's a creative session where you spend the afternoon making your own felt Christmas decorations to take home, so it works as a bit of early prep for the tree.
If you've never been, Abbey House Museum is in Kirkstall, and it's a family-friendly, interactive place that lets you step back into Victorian life. The ground floor is Stephen Harding Gate, a 19th-century version of a modern high street, where you'll find the window washer woman. Upstairs are the Childhood and Community Galleries, which are full of authentic toys from the museum's own collection. Across the road, in the grounds of Kirkstall Abbey — one of the most complete Cistercian ruins in the country — is the Abbey Cafe, so it's an easy spot to grab a coffee or a bite before or after the session.
The museum was saved from closure in 2024 and keeps things going with themed activities, trails and creative sessions like this one during the school holidays, alongside adult study days, curator talks and community events. It's also available for hire for events, filming and photography.
